Accessible e-books: creation and production
Tuesday 18 June 2024, 14.00 – 16.00h (CET), Zoom-meeting
This online meet-up offers the opportunity to bring forward your questions, challenges and solutions you have when it comes to creating and producing born accessible e-books. Topics that will be discussed are for instance accessibility requirements, strategy, tools and procedures. The discussions will be in English.
The APACE project will use the outcome of this meet-up to set up a range of events like training courses, awareness events and ask-the-expert sessions.
This meet-up especially interesting for professionals in the publishing industry (e.g. writers, editors, publishers, graphic designers), professionals working with libraries serving persons with a print impairment and persons with a print impairment themselves.
Program of the meet-up
As an introduction to the topic Julia Schengber will be interviewed. Julia is a project manager in the production department at Rowohlt Verlag, a trade publisher in Germany that publishes fiction and non-fiction. She is also a member of the Accessibility Taskforce at Börsenverein, the German Publishers and Booksellers Association. Following this introduction, you can participate in one of two break-out sessions:
- Policy, content creation and design
- Production, development and technology
About the APACE project
This meetup is carried out within the APACE project – Accelerating Publishing Accessibility Through Collaboration in Europe.
The timing of APACE is harmonized with the arrival of the European Accessibility Act, which from June 2025 will require publishers and other economic operators to adopt accessibility standards on digital publications.
The APACE network consists of the publishers associations in Germany, Italy and Bulgaria and three specialized organisations serving persons with a print impairment from Finland, Lithuania and the Netherlands.
The partners of APACE are Fondazione LIA (Italy), Associazione Italiana Editori (Italy), Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels (Germany), Asotziatzia Bulgarska Kniga (Bulgaria), Stichting Dedicon (the Netherlands), Accessibility Library Celia (Finland) and Lithuanian Audiosensory Library (Lithuania).
